The masterful handling of color, textures of abstracted forms, and unremitting lightness in his artistic work captivate in Marcel Freymond’s painting. He negotiates approaches from Abstract Expressionism along with surrealistic components, examines the rhythms of life and pictorial spaces, and—calling to mind positions such as that of Katharina Grosse—interrogates the boundaries of the painting tradition. Collective experiences and multidisciplinary explorations characterize his oeuvre: He collaborates on a regular basis with Johannes Willi and Olivier Rossel and incorporates his works on canvas into sound and object art.
Freymond looks back at numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Switzerland, for instance, at the Kunsthaus Pasquart in Biel and the Kunsthalle Basel. Internationally, his works have been presented at the 45 sàlon nacional de artistas in Bogotà, the Osten Biennale of Drawing in Skopje, and in Mexico City and Genoa. He has been awarded many prizes and studio stipends. Marcel Freymond’s work is represented in the City of Biel’s Art Collection and in important private art collections in Switzerland.
