Talaya Schmid

A sensitivity to body theory and colorful eccentricity: Talaya Schmid examines the sensual experience of art as well as sexuality and society in tufted objects, large-scale installations, and powerful performances. Her work, which is political and provocative at the same time, follows in the tradition of feminist positions like those of Lily Keller and Valie Export, Tracy Emin and Lygia Clark, and augments emancipatory movements with the topic of physical and social fluidity.

Since studying at Goldsmiths, University of London, Schmid has been awarded numerous prizes and stipends, such as, for instance, the work grant of the Canton of Zurich. Her works have been exhibited several times at the Kunsthaus Zürich as well as at the Helmhaus Zürich, the Haus Konstruktiv, the Industrial Art Biennale in Croatia, dokumenta 14 in Kassel, and the Salon international d’art contemporain in Marseille, among other venues. Talaya Schmid’s work is represented in numerous private and public collections, including the City of Zurich’s Art Collection.

*1983 in Zurich, lives and works in Zurich.
